Holyoke Armory Castle, Holyoke, Massachusetts

Holyoke Armory Castle, Holyoke, Massachusetts is a substantial, castle-like building at 163 Sargeant St in the center of the city.

Constructed at the start of the 20th century, the impressive, red-brick structure has three, three-story towers, crenellations and an imposing entrance – with some of the architectural elements thought to have been inspired by New Hawarden Castle in Wales, UK.  As per the city's 2020 analysis for the future potential of the vacant property, the architectural style was described as; Fortified English Romanesque

Originally used as an armory, Holyoke Armory was used as a temporary jail in more recent years but since 2013 has been owned by the city of Holyoke and is currently in a state of dereliction.  As of mid 2023, the castle was for sale and being shown to prospective developers with the hope of keeping as much of the external architectural details as possible.  Suggested uses for the castle include a regional farmers' market, residential development or commercial office development.
