There may be fewer castles in Alaska than in the average American state however they make up for that with their historical significance. In particular, Baranof Castle Historical Site which was occupied by Russians for over 60 years in the 1800s and is the place at which Alaska was officially transferred from Russia to the USA in 1867. It's incredible to think that an area rich in all sorts of natural resources was sold for a total of $7.2m! If you're visiting or you live in The Last Frontier, do make sure you visit this historic site.
As the website for discovering castles in America (and Canada), the Castlesy team have searched high and low for chateaux, forts, towers and castles from the east to the west and from the very north to the very south. We hope you can visit them all (let us know if you do!!!) and if you happen to know of a castle which should be on our website but isn't, please get in touch.
