The Smithsonian Institution Building or 'the Smithsonian Castle', Washington D.C. is an impressive chateau-like, red sandstone building which serves as a focal point of the 'world's largest museum, education, and research complex'.
Listed as a National Historic Landmark, the castle was built at the end of the 19th century. Predominately Gothic Revival in architectural style, the property has a number of turrets and towers (some of which have crenellations).
Visitors to the Smithsonian are able to tour some of the castle as it is home to the Institute's main visitor center.
