There's a castle right in the middle of New York! Belvedere Castle is a spectacular, 150 year old tourist attraction in Central Park offering wonderful views from its elevated position.
Envisioned by Central Park co-designer Calvert Vaux in 1869, the miniature castle is found on one of the park's highest points – Vista Rock -and looks out across the Great Lawn and the Ramble. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Park and the city. A visitor center and gift shop is also housed within the castle.
“Fittingly, “belvedere” translates to “beautiful view” in Italian; originally built without doors or windows, Belvedere Castle was intended to be a viewing platform. While the outdoor pavilion is a popular lookout, the best views are found two stories up at the top of a winding staircase in the Castle”.
