Hempstead House, Sands Point Preserve, New York

 

Hempstead House, part of the Sands Point Preserve in New York state, is a castle-like mansion built at the start of the twentieth century.  The substantial stone building has crenellated stone towers creating an architectural style of medieval castle meets Gilded Age mansion. 

Hempstead House is one of four impressive mansions on the Guggenheim Estate and was used as a summer residence by the family.  Covering 50,000 sq ft with 40 rooms and a 60ft tall entrance hall, the property was an impressive location for parties, performances and meetings of the wealthy elite.  One of the other mansions on the estate is Castle Gould.

Available to rent for private events, the property is also used for concerts and can be toured by prior arrangement. Also a popular locations for filming, Hempstead House has appeared in films including Malcom X, Great Expectations and Scent of a Woman whilst also being used in numerous popular television shows.
